Mouse and Turtle

I did this painting for fun. My favorite part was designing the instruments. I like to paint in a way that still allows my drawing to be seen underneath. As a growing illustrator I am continually experimenting with different ways to paint and searching for a style that is unique to me.

Finished drawing. I did the values in a layer in photoshop. I like painting in the values digitally more than using a pencil. It seems to save time and I like how it looks better.

One of the initial sketches. I find myself designing characters and other objects later in the drawing stage. During this sort of rough sketch I just like to figure out where everything is located and not worry about detail too much.

Blue Dragon

Final assignment for my digital painting class, painting a dragon fighting a hero. I feel like I've learned a lot the past few months as an illustrator and while this piece definitely not perfect I had a lot of fun doing it.

Robot vs. Mountain Lion

I'm pretty sure that a 7 foot tall robot would be able to clobber a mountain lion without a problem but there is a possibility that the mountain lion is a cyborg mountain lion that shoots lasers out it's eyes.

Creature Workshop

Today at school (UVU), I attended a workshop presented by Terryl Whitlatch. It was awesome and I learned a lot. She is an amazing artist and her knowledge of animal anatomy is mind blowing. At the workshop she had us create an animal that lived on a fictional planet which either inhabited a cold climate or a hot desert climate.

I combined a warthog, a rhino and an elk to make a strange beast that could probably run pretty fast and defend itself with its tusks and horn.

Some other creatures I came up with during the workshop.

Little Red Riding Hood Hunter

What's worse than the big bad wolf? A man who killed the wolf, wears his skin as a headdress and hunts small children that are lost in creepy forests.

Shreddin' Spaceman

When exploring uncharted planets littered with old paper documents and microfilm, Shreddin' Spaceman always takes his guitar.
